Which Image is Correct?

Correct? By what measure?

It’s a silly question, but one I’ve heard often.

I was doing some image processing workflow tests and decided to use a few resulting images for a long-overdue post.

The image is a RAW capture made in a fairly dark interior space (no artificial light, Nikon D800E). Hover over each image to view how it was processed (or click on any image to see a slide show).

  • Top row center most closely represents the scene presented to the camera (but much lighter here).
  • Left of row-2 is what Ansel & his colleagues might have produced.
